Aquatics involvement for the recreation therapist can include conducting: therapy, aquatic exercise, swimming lessons, recreational swim, recreational water sports and competitive swim.

Aquatics can take place in therapy pools, public pools, health spas, lakes, rivers and oceans.

Recreational therapist involved in any aspect of aquatics for individuals with disabling conditions should be trained in safety, interventions and indications/contraindications for the populations they are working with. There are a variety of certifications and training opportunities for recreation therapist interested in aquatics.
