Adaptive Sports

Recreational therapists are experts at adapting any activity of interest, including sports. Sports may include but not limited to bowling, basketball, rugby, hockey, baseball/softball, football, golf, track/field, tennis. Adaptive sports can be pursued at a variety of levels, including participation in clinics to introduce options, for leisure/hobbies and for competition.

Adaptive equipment can vary from homemade devices to expensive and specialized equipment. Parks and recreation departments may offer specialized services which include adapted sports for individuals or teams. There are other sports programs that are privately funded in the community. Recreational therapists based in hospital or clinical settings are also able to introduce adaptive sports to interested participants.
